Dacia’s Powertrain Plant is in charge with manufacturing aluminium foundry parts and with machining and assembling engines, gear boxes and transmission shafts for Dacia’s range models and for Renault models manufactured worldwide.

The Powertrain Plant employs over 2000 people. The 7 buildings of the Powertrain Plant, covering a total surface of 120,000 m², are all located on the industrial site in Mioveni. The manager of the Powertrain Plant is Jacques EUDELINE.

The 4 departments of the plant are:

I. The Engine Department

The Engine Department is in charge with manufacturing and assembling engine parts, with machining spare parts for the C engine and for the NG gearboxes.

The activity of the Engine Department takes place in two buildings, covering a total surface of approximately 23,000 m².

II. The J Gearboxes and the Transmissions Department

The Department is in charge with manufacturing JH gearboxes, GE/GI transmissions and spare parts for these mechanical organs and for the TL4 gearbox;

The activity of the Department takes place in two buildings, covering a total surface of approximately 31,400 m² : the gearbox shop and the transmissions shop.

The JH gearbox and the transmissions are assembles on the X90 range models.

III. The TL Gearbox Department

The TLx (MT1) last generation gearbox manufactured here is the first common gearbox the the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The 6-speed gearbox, displaying a torque up to 240 Nm, is adapted to the new petrol (1.8 l and 2.0 l) and diesel (1.5 l) engines.

The activity of the Department takes place in one building, covering a total surface of approximately 29,000 m².

Hierarchically, the Department is integrated into the Powertrain Plant. Legally, it represents the new Renault Mécanique Roumanie plant (RMR). The RMR plant was inaugurated on 13 May, in the presence of the former Prime–Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, of the French Ambassador, of public authorities and of the press.

The plant was built on Renault standards, in compliance with the ISO 9001 (management and quality) and ISO 14 001 (environment protection) standards.

The 5,000 gearboxes manufactured weekly are all exported to the other plants of the Alliance.

The TL gearbox manufactured by Dacia is assembled on various Renault (Clio, Modus, New Kangoo, Mégane, Scénic, New Laguna) and on the new Nissan models (Tiida, Sentra, Versa, Latio, Livia, Note, Qashqai).

The Department employs about 250 people.

IV. The Aluminium Foundry Department

The Aluminium Foundry Department manufactures founded aluminum parts for gearboxes and engines made by Dacia and for other different Renault plants in Europe, South America, Africa, Asia.

The activity of the Engine Department takes place in two buildings, covering a total surface of approximately 20,000 m². The Department is comprised of 4 manufacturing shops and one maintenance shop. Following investments during the last years, the Foundry Department doubled its output, from 6,500 tons in 2007 to 12,200 in 2008.

The department employs about 450 people.

The Powetrain Plant also includes 5 support-departments (Logistics, Quality, Maintenance, Human Resources and Cost Control).  The four manufacturing departments, the Logistics department and the Progress/SPR Services form the Mechanical Manufacturing Departments.

The 2007 output:

 - 248,727 engines (the 1.4 and 1.6l  petrol engines  and the 1.9 diesel engine)

 - 261,715 J gearboxes

 - 232, 576  GE/GI transmission shafts

 - 7,512 tons of rough aluminium foundry parts

The 2008 output:

 - 256, 872 engines (the 1.4 and the 1.6l petrol engines and the 1.9 l diesel engine)

 - 340,944 gear boxes (the JH 5-speed gearbox and the TL4 6-speed gearboxes)

 - 286.982 transmission shafts

 - 7,402 tons of rough aluminium foundry parts

The Powertrain Plants uses the Renault Production System (SPR) and contributes to Dacia’s industrial efficiency.
